Rocky Mountain Rod’s guiding facility was designed and built by industry recognized leader, Gene Corson. Gene has over 30 years of plastic injection molded on guide experience. RMR looked to him to provide us with a state of the art facility and they were not disappointed. The guiding facility offers an innovative machine that is called the “clam shell.” This machine sandblasts a precise area down to the bare metal surface, providing the cleanest surface available to place a molded on guide. RMR believes this to be an important part for placing guides. Without providing the cleanest possible surface, guides tend to come loose in the hole and move to the ends of the rods. When this happens the guide is not performing its purpose. Most of the time the well is usually pulled and repairs have to be made. Oil producers know that these costs are expensive and that is why RMR wanted a new way to clean the rods to help keep the guides in place. After each rod is sandblasted it is rolled on a conveyer belt and run through the injection machine. After guides are placed on the rods, black rust resistant paint is applied to the edges of each guide to help with corrosion. All rods are then put in pallets, this helps protect the guides from rubbing and wear.
